Four Surprising Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee
Hello everyone,
Today I want to share some amazing, and suprising, health benefits of drinking coffee. Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the United States, with most estimates suggesting that 65-75% of adults drink coffee regularly. That shouldn't be surprising, considering how many Starbucks (14,000 locations!) and Dunkin Donuts (9,000) there are in the US.
Coffee has often been regarded as potentially dangerous and harmful, but recent research has shown that coffee is actually a health food, with some great health benefits. We are all familiar with the energy boost that coffee provides, and most people also know that coffee contains a big dose of antioxidants. But here are four additional benefits of regular coffee consumption that you might find surprising:
Lower risk of Type II diabetes
Lower risk of liver cancer
Lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease
Lower risk of developing Parkinson's disease
And good news for fans of decaf: many of the health benefits of coffee have been demonstrated in regular and decaf coffee.
A couple of recommendations:
Buy organic coffee beans - they will usually be more nutritious and contain less pesticides from the growing process
Do not drink super hot coffee - hot drinks (above 140 degrees), including coffee and tea, may cause damage to the esophagus
Avoid adding sugar to your coffee - it's bad for your health and terrible for your teeth
Do not drink hot coffee from a plastic or styrofoam cup - the heat can dissolve small bits of the plastic and other additives into your drink
